OVERVIEWMedia in today's world has undoubtedly become a significant part of human everyday life. There have been many complex and varied stories on how the media forces around us cause rapid changes in our world as it is witnessing a freer and faster flow of information. In this globalized world, media have made a breakthrough in the nexus of various human cultures. This condition has offered great deal of contributions in promoting world businesses, political agendas, various popular cultures, as well as individual performances. On the other hand, practices in the contemporary media have also brought about a paradoxical situation in which media control us as much as we do them. Petra Christian University is determined to take the initiative of gathering scholars, intellectuals, students, and media practitioners to discuss how media operates in a fast-changing world. With this bold enterprise, we endeavor to encounter media's threatening yet exciting challenges with critical minds. Four social science departments at Petra Christian University, namely, English, Communication, Visual Communication Design, and Business Marketing Department will jointly conduct the International Conference on "Media in a Fast-Changing World". Each discipline will not only examine various aspects of today's media from its own perspective but also learn from diverse points of views. This conference is the first of its kind held in Indonesia in its attempt to bring together different minds both in its depth and breadth of substance and scope. Therefore, we are of confidence that the seminar will bring benefits to individual intellectuals, academic worlds, media communities, and society in general. |
